Know IT All for Parents

Welcome to the Know IT All for Parents area where you can access the entire content from the Know IT All for Parents CD-ROM.

Because the majority of the content includes video introductions and interactive activities, it may take time to download (depending on the speed of your connection). However once you have downloaded the Home Page you can access individual sections separately. There is also a Text only version of the entire content.

Most of the content on this CD-ROM is for parents and carers, but there is also a special section for children and young people, which you can show your kids.

Graphic: The KIA presentation The Know IT All for Parents and Carers presentation highlights the gap that exists between children’s real experience online and adult awareness of these experiences. The presentation contains information about positive ways young people are using different technologies, what the risks are to users and it outlines practical advice in avoiding or minimising risks when using online and mobile technologies.

If you have only recently started using the internet and need help with the basics, don’t worry – there is a special section for you called New to Computers. Also, if you haven’t got the time to look at all the material on this CD-ROM, there is a Quick Overview which gives you a summary of the content. This section has been translated into Arabic, Bengali, Gujarati, Mandarin, Polish, Punjabi, Urdu and British Sign Language.

"I am delighted with this new resource. I have seen it myself and, as a new parent, I can see how valuable this will be to the parents of children and young people of all ages. We should never take for granted that our children know it all about computers and the internet. We should know what they're doing and be there to help and support them. This new resource provides a lot of information and advice for parents and I'm pleased that the main overview section is translated into seven other languages and into British Sign Language... I am also pleased that it includes sections for young people themselves and for teachers,  and fully approve of the approach Childnet has taken with this resource – having young people talking to young people about the benefits and issues associated with the internet is very powerful."
Parmjit Dhanda, MP, Minister for Children, Young People and Families speaking at the launch of the Know IT All for Parents resource
